Along with the interview the Prison Officer interview, the role plays are one of the most feared parts of the selection process. However, if you know what the recruitment staff are looking for and have fully prepared you will be able to stand out from the other candidates.

Following the initial welcome briefing, you will be given a briefing on each of the role play situations that you will have to deal with, during which you will be able to take notes.

Each role-play will last for a maximum of 10 minutes and during this time you will be expected to be yourself and deal with the situations in the same way that you would deal with them in every day life. You will not require experience of working within a prison environment to successfully complete the RAD as all role-play simulations are non-prison based, although they are similar to situations that prison officers would be expected to deal with.

Success at the assessment day is really dependent on you demonstrating that you can keep a balanced head in confrontational situations, and can handle the pressure without making rash judgements. You are being tested to see if you can deal with situations that you may experience as part of your daily routine.
